Christian Education

The Church of the Holy Apostles provides Christian formation programs for all ages. Education focuses on broadening knowledge about Christian beliefs in a variety of ways to strengthen our faith and ministry to the world. Classes on Sunday morning are provided for three year olds through adulthood. The programs are staffed by dedicated volunteers, supported by the Education Committee and the Rector. Education for all ages begins at 9:30 am and ends at 10:20 am on Sunday mornings.

Infants and Toddlers

A nursery is provided for infants to three year olds during education time. (Parents are encouraged to arrive ten minutes before education begins.)

Children

The children's curriculum is the Episcopal Children's Curriculum. This curriculum for children ages 3-11 (preschool-grade 6) is written specifically for the Episcopal Church. The foundation of ECC is scripture, the Book of Common Prayer, the Hymnal 1982, church history and tradition. Its focus is the Baptismal covenant. Included in every year are these four units: Old Testament, New Testament, Sacraments, and the Church. Every year also has material on the major events of the Church Year, including All Saints and Pentecost.

Adults

Adult education in 2007 - 2008 is DOCC, the Disciples of Christ in Community curriculum. In both presentation and small group format, the essentials of faith as shaped in a faith community are examined. We explore theological issues/themes, encourage weekly reading of the biblical text and engage participants in reflection of their own faith journey. Individuals interested in joining a DOCC group for the Fall, which will meet during the week, should contact the Rector.

In the Fall of 2008, adult education will study Living Waters, a curriculum which explores our baptismal covenant, and personal narrative in our Christian journey.

Youth

Material from the Journey to Adulthood curriculum shapes conversation between youth preparing to transition from high school into adulthood. The youth will be developing and implementing two year projects, one on behalf of the congregation, the other a pilgrimage chosen by the high school youth to be experienced at the end of the second year.

Christian Education is an important component to our faith journey. All parishioners are encouraged to participate. Newcomers can be assured that entering into the program at any point during the year is easy and welcomed!
