Stewardship

Parishioners at the Church of the Holy Apostles take seriously their obligations as responsible stewards of God’s gifts and are faithful about returning a portion of these gifts to God.

Stewardship, caring for all that God has abundantly provided to us, is a daily part of Christian life. Among other things, stewardship includes caring for the environment, the financial resources entrusted to us, the talents each of us has, and committing some of our time to ministry. We often encapsulate the concept of stewardship by saying it is the giving of our time, talents and treasure.

The giving of time and talent at the Church of the Holy Apostles happens in a variety of ways. Some parishioners serve on the Vestry, the governing body of the church, or on committees that oversee programs and events. Others may provide office support, visit the sick as a Lay Eucharistic visitor, or teach Christian education. Every person is blessed with specific talents they can offer the community. Whether during worship on Sundays or during the week, we welcome those who join our community to offer their unique talents to ministries of the parish. The Rector and other congregational leaders will work with you to help you discern what your talents are and/or how to integrate them into our parish life.

In the parish, financial stewardship is often highlighted by the annual pledge campaign which takes place in the autumn, usually culminating in early November. During this time, parishioners are asked to make a pledge of their financial resources for the year ahead, to be used in spreading God’s kingdom in the parish and in the wider community. These pledges are not contractual obligations. Rather, they provide a framework for expected income so the annual budget can be drafted by the Finance Committee.

The Church of the Holy Apostles uses pledge envelopes for its parishioners for annual operating pledges and capital campaign pledges. These are distributed in December for the following year. Pledge envelopes for new parishioners are available at any time by calling the parish office.

If you are a newcomer, we urge you to join with other parishioners as we share the joys of being responsible stewards. Stewardship is an essential part of our spiritual journey, for it reminds us all that it is from God that all blessings flow.
